Introduction

The Manigandam Panchayat Education and Village Development Society is a voluntary organisation, registered under the Societies Registration Act in 1976, imparting comprehensive education and integrated village development works throughout Manigandam block in Tiruchirapalli District since 1976 and in the villages of Viralimalai block in Pudukottai District of Tamil Nadu since 2000 .

This is an education programme for the village community. This Programme was planned and prepared by Fr.Mathew Kanathukatt , C.S.C., on his return from Philippines, where he pursued a Counselling Course. This was presented to the Vice-Chancellor of Madras University and to the then Adviser to the Governor of Tamilnadu and to the Collector of Tiruchirapalli District, Mr.C.Ramachandran the Vice-Chancellor had suggested to commence the programme.

The Collector of Tiruchirapalli had offered one acre and fifty six cents of land at Nadupatti village in Manigandam block to run the programme and to construct residential quarters and a training centre. Since then, the programme continues. From the modest beginning of education and development in one village,in 2016 MPEVDS is working in 157 villages of Tiruchirapalli and Pudukottai Districts.

To empower the village communities to live harmoniously, and with concern for their fellow beings; uphold justice, liberty and integrity; be economically self reliant, and exercise their fundamental rights.
